Barbara Ann Cook, 88, of Coggon, Iowa died Wednesday, February 26, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon. A celebration of life will follow until 3:00 p.m. at the Coggon American Legion.

Barb was born on May 26, 1936, the daughter of Ben and Leota Boddicker in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Barb was raised by her mother and grew up in Alburnett, Iowa and graduated from Alburnett High School’s class of 1954. After high school, she worked at the Linn County Courthouse, was an elevator operator and worked at Collins Radio. She was united in marriage to Don Cook on June 9, 1957. They made their home in Coggon where Barb stayed home while their kids were young and later worked as a cook at the North Linn Elementary School in Coggon. She loved the kids and enjoyed seeing them grow up. Barb was very involved in the community and loved Coggon. She lived in the same neighborhood for over 60 years and enjoyed her neighbors. She was an active member of the Zion Presbyterian Church, the Coggon Historical Society, Coggon Library Board, Coggon Cemetery Board, DC Club, and for many years she helped at the Mission Thrift Store as well as delivered Meals on Wheels. Barb and Don enjoyed playing golf at Meadowview Country Club and dancing at the Prairie Moon Ball Room.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son Chris (Julie) Cook of Walker, Iowa; daughters Jenny (Daryl) Michael of Newton, Iowa; Dawn (Rod) Dvorak of Walker, Iowa; and daughter-in-law Diane Richardson, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 10 grandchildren Tanner (Katie) Cook, Mason (Amber) Cook, David (Amanda) Michael, Daniel Michael, Nicholas (Denae) Michael, Emily (Chris) Calixte, Rachel Richardson, Nolan (Riley) Dvorak, Chase Dvorak, Josey (Brandon) Stepanek. Great-grandchildren Michael, Christopher, Leah, Jerry, Marvin, Levi, Seth, Naomi, Rebekah, William, Sammy, Carter, Zyair, Veyah, Dexter, and one on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Dick (Sue) Boddicker and half-sister, DiAnna Boddicker Gerdes. 

Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her son, Robb; mother, Leota; and brother David. 

Barb was all about her family. Through sad times and good times, she always held on to her faith. She said that every day is a good day. 

Special thanks to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson, who was her doctor and dear friend. Also, special appreciation to the caregivers at Hiawatha Care Center for their loving and compassionate care.

Memorial donations may be given in her name to the family to be distributed to Zion Presbyterian Church or other Coggon organizations.
