Jon L. Gentry, 73, of Robins, died Saturday May 9, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 12, 2026, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife Connie Gentry, his children, Laura (Josh) Umstead of Ely, Iowa, Mark (Lisa) Davis of Walford, Iowa, Ann (Cory) Neumann of Geneseo, Illinois, Jon (Courtney) Gentry of Geneseo, Illinois, Estranged step daughter, Lynn (Ken) Vorwald of Dyersville, Iowa and children, his grandchildren, Cael Deflieger of Walford, Iowa, Jake Umstead (Lilian Jones) of Walford, Iowa, Brynlee Deflieger, of Ely, Iowa, Jayden Umstead of Ely, Iowa, Taylor Davis of Walford, Iowa, Colt Davis of Walford, Iowa, Levi Neumann USS Columbia, Hawaii, Harrison Neumann, Wyatt Neumann, Suzanne Neumann of Geneseo, Illinois, Maxx Gentry of Geneseo, Illinois, Maelyn (Samuel Buser) Gentry of Geneseo, Illinois; and great grandson, Bowyn Buser of Geneseo, Illinois, his siblings, Janice (Jack) Heartlein of Peoria, Illinois, Mary Kay (James) Sims of Bettendorf, Iowa, Gary (Carolyn) Gentry of Waukee, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack Gentry, Rosemary Gentry, Barbara Gentry, Thomas Ingram and James “Jay” Ingram.
Jon was born on January 17, 1953, in Genesco, Illinois, the son of Chester and Mary Jane (Morrissey) Gentry. He married Connie Bockenstedt on October 12, 2013, in Solon, Iowa. Jon Graduated from Geneseo Highschool. He served in the United Staes Navy. He served and built the USS Wasp (LHD-1). He received the Navy Achievement Medal, Sharpshooter, Sea Service and deployment with Silver Star Good Conduct Award. Jon enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, golfing at the Lake McBride with his “golfing buddies”, collecting classic cars, sports cars, riding motorcycles. He also was an avid Hawkeye Fan.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hall Perine Caner Center and Mercy Hospice in Jon’s Memory. Family will greet friends after 3:00 p.m. at Shuey’s , 1158 Club Road NE, Shueyville, Iowa.
