Janet Elizabeth (McVay) Smith, Age 87, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away peacefully at her home in Cedar Rapids on Monday, August 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 9 AM until service time at 11 AM with Father Aaron Junge officiating. An entombment will follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Janet was born on March 8, 1939, in Hopkinton, IA. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth Ann (Pender) McVay. On June 3, 1959, Janet married the love of her life, Barry B. Smith, in Hopkinton, IA. Janet enjoyed watching soap operas, collecting dolls, attending craft shows, baking cookies, vacationing with Carl and Bernita, going to Ireland with her family, and spending time with her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory is her husband, Barry B. Smith, of Cedar Rapids, IA; her children, Kim LeClere, of Marion, IA, Shelley (Jeff) Rudish, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Barry S. (Toni) Smith; her grandchildren, Justin (Stephanie), Cory (Sarah), Melissa (Blaine), Jenna (Kasey), Connor, Alexis, Cole; her great-grandchildren, Collin, Jayden, Rutledge, Harrison, Charlie, Cora, Avery, and Kallum; her sister, Barb (Bill) Burns, of Marion, IA, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Joyce (Jim) Martinek, and a niece Teresa. Janet was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma. Her smile and laugh were contagious! She loved holding hands with the ones she loved.
