Parke and Cassie (Moles) Forrest on a farm near Central City, Iowa.  She attended a one-room rural school, graduated from Central City High School, attended Iowa State Teachers College after which she taught in the rural schools of Linn and Delaware Counties.  On May 29, 1946, following WWII, she married Richard (Dick) Henderson.  Three sons were born to this union, the family residing in Coggon, Iowa.  She was an active member of Zion Presbyterian Church.  Of utmost importance were her faith in Jesus, her family and her friends.

Dorothy’s favorite times included those spent on the bleachers as a spectator and fan at the athletic contests and musical events involving her sons and later her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed golf, square and ballroom dancing, shuffleboard, playing cards, board games and puzzles.

After moving to Cedar Rapids in 1978 she became a member of New Covenant Bible Church and treasured her Pathfinders class there.  She was a dedicated volunteer at Bridgehaven almost to the very end.

Her family includes her three sons David (Jeanne), Douglas (Joyce), and Daryl (Manyee); grandchildren Anthony (Melissa), Anne, Amy, Holly (Dustin Palmersheim), Ashley (Joseph Lynn), and Daniel; great grandchildren Alexis, Zac, Emily, Kendall, Tyler, Skylar, and Austin.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Richard (Dick) Henderson, brother Greydon Forrest, sister Marie Wenger, infant granddaughter Jamie and infant great granddaughter Zoe.
