Michael James Fitzsimmons, 58, of Cedar Rapids, IA (formerly of Belle Plaine, IA) passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at Unity Point Health- St Luke’s Inpatient Hospice Unit due to complications from cancer. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
Michael was born December 28, 1967, in Casper Wyoming to Adrian and Katherine (Price) Fitzsimmons. He was the youngest of seven children.
Growing up in Iowa, he graduated from Belle Plaine High School class of 1986 and later attended Kirkwood Community College for Auto Body Repair. While working in the auto body repair field he amassed many close friends and relationships, proudly working at the end for Waln Repair & Collision Center. Mike enjoyed fishing, salmon fishing trips on Lake Michigan, riding side by sides “gravel travel” around Iowa with family and friends. Also, enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing cards and visiting.
Michael is survived by his sisters Denise Anderson, Valerie Fitzsimmons, and a brother Dale (Pamela) Fitzsimmons all of Casper, Wyoming. Brothers, Shawn (Susan) Fitzsimmons of Lake City, MN, and Mark (Kelly) Fitzsimmons of Red Wing, MN. Along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, a brother David, and a brother-in-law Frank Anderson.
A celebration of life will be announced at a future date.
