Leanne was born to parents John and Gertrude (Vande Garde) Sas on March 11, 1955, in Sioux Center, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Hull. She attended school at Boyden-Hull and graduated in 1973. She went on to nursing school in Sioux Falls and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She then began her nursing career at Sioux Valley Hospital where she worked for 10 years.

She married Verlyn Moen on May 26, 1984, in Sioux Falls. They lived in Rapid City for a year before moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Verlyn got a job at Rockwell Collins. Leanne was a stay-at-home mom raising her 3 sons. After they were all in school, she worked part time in a doctor’s office for several years. Later she became a school nurse at Francis Marion Intermediate middle school where she received the KCRG “A+ for Education” award.

Leanne enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and other assorted crafts. She also enjoyed reading and watching Hallmark movies, especially at Christmas time. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and her little granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dwight and Leland.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Verlyn; three sons, Andrew (Shelbie) Moen of Marion, Iowa, Mark Moen of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Kasey (Caitlin) Moen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one precious granddaughter: Mayla Mae Moen; sister-in-law Marla Sas; brother-in-law Myrle (& Joanne) Moen; several nieces & nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Thank you for all the prayers and to everyone who came to visit Leanne. A special thank you to Pastor Kent and the wonderful, caring staff at Mercy Hospital.
