Lonnie Dale Gray, 92, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospice Unit in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A private graveside service will be held with burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lonnie was born on August 25, 1933, near Okemah, Oklahoma, the son of Austin Lonnie and Rachel Fay (Morris) Gray. He graduated from High School in Benton, Illinois in 1951. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force where he worked in major surgery as an operating room technician with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Lonnie married Kay Frances Larkin in 1954, and they were the parents of: Robin Kay, Lisa Carole, Sandra Dee, James Lonnie and John Douglas. They were later divorced.
He was a salesman for General Motors and was named Division Manager for Eastern Iowa by the Frigidaire Sales Corporation. He retired from being a correctional officer with the State of Iowa in 1995.
Lonnie married Doris Ann (Gerling) Wood on December 24, 2002. After living in Lisbon for ten years, they returned to Cedar Rapids.
The family would like to extend deepest gratitude to all those at St. Luke’s who provided exceptional care, compassion, and dignity toward Lonnie.
