Susan L. Houg, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday May 31, 2017 in her home with her loving family surrounding her. Services: 10:00 am Tuesday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, with burial following at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Lynn Banderob and Reverend Phil Jorgensen will officiate. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Susan was born February 10, 1953 in Reno, Nevada, the daughter of Kenneth and Elaine (Mack) Bravener. She graduated from Dysart-Geneseo High School and then attended Wartburg College. She married Marvin Gene Houg on September 11, 1982 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Susan was a Brokerage Manager for Transamerica in Cedar Rapids and then Office Manager for Linn-Mar Chiropractic in Marion. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Susan enjoyed watching Heather participate in ice hockey and water skiing. The time spent with her grandchildren was some of her most cherished times.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Marvin, her daughters, Michelle (Ernest) Nicholas of Cedar Rapids, and Heather Houg of Cedar Rapids, her mother, Elaine Bravener of Marion, and her brother David (Kristina) Bravener of Denver, IA. Also surviving are her grandchildren Kaylee and Joel Nicholas. She is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Bravener, and infant brother Steven.
