Emmett E. Friedman, 87, of Cedar Rapids went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 10am at the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, IA. Visitation will be before the service at 9am. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  

Emmett was born November 11, 1927 to Leo and Leona (Zewen) Friedman in Luxemburg, IA.  He graduated from Loras Academy in Dubuque, IA.  Emmett married Germaine Schuster on June 6, 1949 in New Vienna, IA. They were married for 53 wonderful years before her passing in 2003. He served with the United States Navy in World War II.

Emmett was an active member at St. Pius X Catholic Church.  He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He loved watching his Chicago Cubs play baseball and solving crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his children Steven (Sue) Friedman of Ft. Atkinson, WI, Charles (Mary Kay) Friedman of Cedar Rapids, IA, Ann (Larry) DeGroodt of Lake St. Louis, MO, Douglas (Denise) Friedman of Geneva, IL, Jeffrey (Laura) Friedman of Mt. Vernon, IA, Jean Philipp of Swansea, IL, and June (James) Tipton of Springville, IA;  16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and his brothers John (Carol) Friedman of Bankston, IA and Harlan Friedman of Dubuque, IA.

Emmett was preceded in death by parents; his wife, Germaine; son, Donald; son-in-law, Brian; his great-granddaughter, Grace; and two sisters Jeanette Gassman and Marie Bockenstedt.
  
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oldorf Hospice House.
