Clifford C. Moore, Age 97, of Mt. Vernon, IA, passed away at the VA Hospital in Iowa City on Friday, June 19, 2026. In his last year he battled many complications and issues with great strength and courage.

A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 10 AM until service time at 11 AM. Interment to follow at the Campbell Cemetery in rural Linn County.

Clifford was born on September 7, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the son of the late Clifford and Mary (Zarba) Moore. During his youth, he attended St. Wenceslaus Parish and school. As a young man, he enlisted in the US Navy where he drove a hospital ambulance while stationed in Hawaii. One night at a dance, he met the love of his life, Fern Wiedersberg and they adventured through life in marriage for 61 years. Together they built their home in rural Mt. Vernon, where Cliff loved the “Country Life”, and shared this love with Fern by raising a family together. Cliff worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as an inspector for 35 plus years and later retired from the Cedar Rapids School System as a janitor. He especially enjoyed a large vegetable garden every year, and his apple trees, which he proudly shared with his neighbors and friends. He loved to drive his Mahindra and John Deere tractors around the farm and tinkered in his garage with special projects. He shared his home with pets throughout his life and treated them like family.

Those left to cherish Clifford’s memory are his daughters, Corine “Hearts” Moore of Mt. Vernon, IA and Jackie Moore of Mt. Vernon; his grandson, Nathan Schulz, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern, his parents, and his siblings, Leota Yanda, Hillard Moore, Robert “Bobby” Moore, John Moore and Mike Moore.

You will always be in our hearts forever!!

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and or to the Smile Train.
