Jack Carel “J.C.” Blaauw, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday May 5, 2026, in the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. There will be no service in accordance with his wishes. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
J.C. was born on August 14, 1961, in Santa Monica, California, the son of Jacob and Antje (Ferwerda) Blaauw. He grew up in Venice Beach, California. J.C. received an Associate degree from Santa Monical College in June 1983, and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Film Studies from UC Santa Barbara in August 1985. J.C. relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1986. He worked at Hy Vee Drugstore-Boyson Road for over 22 years. After being diagnosed with multiple myeloma and ESRD in August of 2020, J.C. began his 2,076 day journey to deal with the main issues and resulting side effects. He was upbeat until the moment his body gave up the fight.
J.C. and Maryann recently made three trips titled “Last Hurrah-going out in style”, “part deux” and “part trois” to Disneyland/Las Vegas and WDW. This was their happy place, with many memories over his lifetime.
He is survived by his older sister, Maryann Frazer and canine Ms. Charlie. He was preceded in death by his parents.
