Loren L. Likes, 70, passed away peacefully on August 17th, 2026, at The Gardens surrounded by his loved ones.

The visitation will take place at 10am-12:30 pm, Saturday August 22nd at Cedar Memorial 4200 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402, with a grave side service to follow.  Please feel free to join our family for a luncheon after services are completed.

Loren was born on July 5th, 1956, in Wakefield, Nebraska to Oliver and Lucille Likes (Kleinberg).  He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1974.  After high school he attended Western Iowa Tech for mechanical drafting.  After graduating, he moved to Cedar Rapids in 1976 to work for FMC. In 1975 he had met our mother Sandy and they were happily married on 4/16/1977.  While living in Cedar Rapids, he worked at Shive Hattery, Ace Refrigeration, Bowker, Pipe Pro and retired from Rockwell Collins in 2020.

He enjoyed watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles, Denver Broncos and Da Bears.  Other hobbies included golfing, coaching, camping, traveling, especially to Arizona.  He spent a lot of time designing and building various projects (you should see the SheShed).  From the first neighbors at Pheasant Run, to our neighbors on 29th Street and our current neighbors on Floral Dr, we are forever grateful for the friendships we have made.  You all became our family.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and neighbors.  His grandchildren meant the world to him.

Loren is survived by his wife Sandy of 49 amazing years and their 3 children, Sara (Jonah Woods) of Cedar Rapids, Adam of Cedar Rapids, Katie (Jacob Van Winkle) of Cedar Rapids, 6 Grandchildren, Nicholas, Jaxon, Mason, Lennon, Loren and Lerritt.  2 Sisters, Cinde Miller and Lynn Schaefer, 1 brother Kevin Likes.  5 Sister-In-Laws Dawn Likes, Julie Mozak, Pam Gerhardt, Tracy Likes and Mary Jane Holck.  4 Brother-In-Laws, Thomas Holck, Bill Holck, Pat Schaefer and Tim Gerhardt. Also, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Oliver and Lucille Likes (Kleinberg) and mother and father-in-law George and Eileen Holck.

We want to thank the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, St Lukes Hospital, The Gardens and St Lukes Hospice for taking great care of him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.
