Patricia Gail Johnston, 73, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024. A celebration of Patty’s life will be held on Sunday, June 2nd from 10 am to 2 pm in the Merino Loft at Hotel Millwright, Amana. Light food and refreshments will be served.
Patricia was born in Sioux City, Iowa on August 13, 1950, to James and Caroline Malone. She graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1968, in Sioux City. She went to Western Iowa Tech, where she earned her LPN. Later, she graduated from Kirkwood Community College and passed her boards to become a Registered Nurse. Most recently, Patty was an oncology research nurse at Hall Perrine Cancer Center in Cedar Rapids.
Patty married Richard Edwin Johnston on August 11, 1973, in Sioux City; they celebrated 50 wonderful years together. They moved to Chicago for a few years and finally settled in Cedar Rapids in 1984. Patty loved flowers, birds, and shopping at Von Maur as well as other boutiques. Dick and Patty had various little white West Highland Terrier dogs over the years. Most important was family; Patty especially loved spoiling her three grandchildren.
Patty is survived by her husband, Richard; daughter, Kaitlin Courtney (Lee) Johnston-Boyse; grandchildren, Cecilia Lee Boyse (age 7), Martin James Boyse (age 5), and Nolan Johnston Boyse (18 months).
Although Patty loved flowers, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Monroe Township Fire Department, 3745 Toddville Road, Toddville, IA, 52341.
