William (Bill) Charles Stallman, 86, of Fairfax, died peacefully at his family farm on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Bill was born December 23, 1937, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids to Charles and Margaret Schulte Stallman. He was the youngest of 12 children, the rest who were born on the Stallman Century Family Farm. He graduated from St. Patrick Catholic High School in Fairfax. On September 16, 1961, he married Charlene Rettinger at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. Bill was a lifelong farmer. He was involved in the Eastern Iowa Exotic Bird and Animal Club for many years and the Fairfax Legion.  In addition to his dairy and beef cows, he enjoyed and kept his menagerie of birds and animals. The timber on his farm was one of his greatest treasures. Bill was well known for his hijinks, pranks, and antics as well as spending time in conversation and cards with his family and friends at his farm. He was happiest when he was home.

Survivors include his children who cared for their beloved curmudgeon allowing him to remain on the farm until his death - Linda and Clifford Lough of Fairfax, Tom Stallman of Fairfax, Karen Stallman of Cedar Rapids, and Ann and Mark Frese of Norway. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Kyle (Diana) Stallman, Megan (Tony) Nolting, Alyssa (Benjamin) LaBomascus and Jared (Kaitlyn) Frese, his six great grandchildren: Olivia, Leo, Charlie, Savannah, Parker, and Luke; his siblings Firmin Stallman of Center Point and Margaret Cejka of Fairfax, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who became family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Charlene, children: Kathy, Lori, Billy; five brothers: Carl, James, David, Gerald, and Robert; and four sisters: Marie, Eleanor, Germaine, and Ida.

Funeral Mass:  10:00 am on Thursday, March 21st at St. John Catholic Church with Reverend Richmond Dzekoe officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, rural Fairfax. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.

Deepest appreciation to the children's employers: HACAP, Schrader Tiling and Terrain, and WRH, Inc. for allowing the flexibility for the children to care for their father.

Memorials may be given in Bill's name to the Fairfax Fire Department.
