John Kay Myers, 76, of Toddville, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at home surrounded by family. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with the service immediately following at 3 p.m.
John was born on June 1, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Elizabeth (Betty) Myers. He graduated from Washington High School and went on to attend DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. After meeting his wife at a fundraising car wash for the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club, John was united in marriage to Carol Jean Andrlik on June 24, 1972, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. John loved classic cars, car shows and even entered his 1966 Corvette into a car show the morning of his wedding! Camping was another love. Along with their two daughters, Jenny and Julie, the family were regulars at the Jones County Fair.
John worked for 32 years at Square D Company and celebrated retirement with Corvette #2. He and Carol then traveled around the country in their motorhome, ending up in Surprise, Arizona for the winters. In Surprise, he enjoyed being treasurer of the Firearms Enthusiast Club and jeeping around the desert. He had an unmistakable and contagious grin that lit up any room. Always tinkering and lending a helping hand, he most cherished his one-on-one time with his grandchildren.
John is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Carol Myers; daughters Jenny (Shayne) Van Dyke of Lisbon and Julie (Ben) Golding of Cedar Rapids; grandsons Cody, Dakota, Kyle, Lukys Van Dyke and Grant, Greyson Golding; granddaughter Mackenzie Golding; nephews and nieces; brother-in-law Bob Andrlik (Pam); sister-in-law Linda McCann-Myers. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bob Myers.
