Joan Kathleen Gerber, age 89 of Marion, Iowa died December 13, 2023, at Hiawatha Care Center.
Joan was born on March 8, 1934, in Solon, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Edward and Venita Beretta. Joan married David Gerber on September 19, 1953, in Cedar Rapids. Joan was employed as principal’s secretary at Indian Creek Elementary for 27 years before taking early retirement in 1993. She and David were members of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Marion, Iowa.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, husband David Gerber of 69 years, who passed away on March 8, 2023, and sister, Jean Stepanek.
Survivors include son Gary (Lyn) Gerber of Timbo, Arkansas and daughter Connie (Kent) Shellady of Cape Fair, Missouri, brother John (Sally) Beretta. Three grandsons, Daniel (Sidnea) Gerber, their children, Sawyer, Easton and Madden, Logan Gerber, his children Keely, Aspen and Ty, and Colby (Anna) Gerber and their children, Cade and Jett.

Visitation will start at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service 11:00 AM officiated by Rev. Dr. Nancy Redman, on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, IA.
