Dan Allen Allers, 78, of Hiawatha, passed away on Tuesday August 15, 2023, at Unity Point St. Lukes in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held on Monday August 21, 2023, from 10:00 am until 12:00 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a 12:15 graveside Celebration of Life service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jo Allers, his sister, Peggy Barron of Belle Plaine, Iowa, sisters-in-law, Jan Sbiral of Spillville, Iowa, Joyce (Roger) Hageman of Ossian, Iowa, and Judy (Doug) Weaver of Birmingham, Michigan, his brothers-in-law, Gary Haddy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wayne (Corinne) Wiest of Calmar, Iowa, and Ron (Mary) Wiest of St. Paul, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Orpha Allers, his sister, Debby Haddy and niece, Cathy Haddy, and nephew, Darin Hageman his father and mother-in-law, Art and Ellen Wiest, and brother-in-law, Lance Sbiral.
Dan was born December 21, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Orpha (Allen) Allers. He was raised in Keystone, Iowa where he graduated from high school and earned a Bachelor of Art degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He married Jo Wiest on August 30, 1975, in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. He served in the Navy from 1967-1968 during the Viet Nam War running a mine sweeping boat on the Long Tau River for the clearance of the Merchant Ships. The Wooden Hull boat was 60 feet long, and 18 feet wide. Dan was employed with FMC for 9 years and Midwest Metal Products for 22 years, retiring in 2007. Dan and Jo were Antique Dealers and Collectors of some wonderful Antiques. They set up at many Antique Shows from Nashville, Tennessee, Ohio, to Minnesota for 40 years. They were members of the Blue & White Stoneware Club, Red Wing Stoneware Club as well as many other Antique Clubs. Dan was honored to go to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight with his nephew Jason Sbiral on April 25, 2023.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Hiawatha Care Center and Unity Point St. Lukes and the many family and friends for the visits and out pour of cards and well wishes.
I am not gone till I am forgotten.
