Thank you to all that posted memories of Aunt Donna. At her service, Father mentioned she told him being a good friend was most important to her. Her family knew how special she was. So nice to read her impact on others. I read somewhere that if an adult read to you as a child your chances of life success increased. She read to my brothers and I often as kids. As I got older she would send me books and place a note between pages. When I found the note I would call her and we would discuss the book.

I was so sorry to learn of Donna’s death today. I came to work at Nixon the same year Donna did. What a wonderful person! She was always so kind to me and very helpful. I love the picture in the obituary….it’s exactly how I remember her! The world is a better place because she was in it! My sincere sympathies to her family and close friends.

Ms. Schlampp was the media specialist at Nixon when my son, Ben, was a student there, 1981-86. She taught the ELP students. She would always come up with great ideas to have them work on. Ben was thrilled when he was able to begin to learn computer skills on the only few first computers in the building. Ms. Schlampp's excitement for learning was contagious to the students. I so appreciated her. I volunteered regularly so I would run into her in the halls and IMC. She was so exuberant, positive, fun, and in love with learning and it seemed also in love with each student. Thank you for definitely making a positive difference in so many lives while you were with us. My sympathy to her family and close friends.

I met Donna when she was on the board of East Central Library. She was a truly lovely person. I so enjoyed the Christmas tree she left up year round with all the book related ornaments. I also enjoyed talking with her about her many trips. She was very interesting. My sympathy to her family.

Donna was a very special library friend, who was a role model for many of us. We will remember her as an ambassador for reading. She shared her love of books with many many children. Donna made the world a brighter place for all of us, adults and children, because of her optimism and kindness. We will miss her laughter and her beautiful smile.

Donna Schlampp was instrumental in guiding my future in becoming a Library Media Specialist. So many memories of the time I spent at Nixon Elementary School working with her. She was always there to help me become a better teacher and a better person. She will be missed. We need more Donna Schlampps in our world today. Thank you for your love of children and may we all live up to your expectations in our continuing efforts to improve the lives of our children today.

I knew Donna Schlampp as Mother Goose and I would have her come to my preschool room every year when we were learning about rhyming words . She would come dressed as Mother Goose with all of her Nursery Rhyme ornaments in a basket and a new Rhyming book under her arm. When she started to read, she had all of the Children’s undivided attention even the ones who had a hard time listening. They loved to listen to her explain her ornaments and learn Nursery Rhymes at the same time. I’m so glad Donna shared her love of books and Nursery Rhymes with my preschoolers. My sincere sympathy to Donna’s family and friends at the loss of a fabulous teacher and educator.

Donna and I arrived at Nixon Elementary the same year. We both had several year experience at various schools. We had many good short chats on our 1 to 2 minute breaks talking about our experiences and what a change it was to be at Nixon. She was a very cheerful, kind, giving and caring person. The world needs more like Donna. I'm so glad we had those years together at Nixon and could enjoy some of those Nixon retiree breakfasts at the Marriott before COVID brought that to a halt. I know she cared much for her nephews and my condolences go out to you.

I knew Miss Schlamp from my elementary school days at Nixon. From reading out loud to us students, to helping us learn the Dewy Decimal system, she was a wonderful educator and librarian. She fueled my passion to read and could and would let me come in early to hang out in what was called the IMC. They sure don't make them like Miss Schlamp anymore!

When I came to Cedar Rapids in 1973 as an elementary school librarian (media specialist), Donna was one of the first people I met. She was a mentor and an inspiration to me in many ways but most of all a good friend. I love the picture posted for her obituary. It is how I will ALWAYS remember her. I am very sorry I will not be able to attend her services on Wednesday. I extend my sympathy to her very loving and caring family of which she was so proud.

Miss Schlamp was a wonderful and memorable teacher. I was lucky to be one of her students at Harrison. She definitely made learning fun. I remember her making tortillas in class when we were studying Mexico. The recipe is still in use.

I had Ms. Schlampp as a 4th grade teacher at Harrison Elementary School back i the early 60s. I remember one instance were she was showing us how a mouse would gingerly walk across a floor and she fell. The entire classroom was silent! She got up, dusted herself off and told us how nice that no one laughed until we knew se was ok. She was a great teacher and after all these years, I still remember her. My prayers go out to the family.
