Mabel “Sue” Beem passed away July 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. A visitation will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 PM on Saturday August 8th, 2026, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom.
Mabel was born November 6, 1933, to Fritz and Erma (Kipp) Benteman in Frankfort, Kansas. She was the eighth of fourteen children.
In 1951 Mabel met a handsome soldier named Bill at a town dance in Marysville, Kansas. She introduced herself using her sister's name and was Sue thereafter. They were married for 75 years after a short courtship.
Throughout Bill's 20-year Army career, she traveled the world with him, raising three children and embracing both the adventures and the challenges of military life. She had the uncanny ability to connect with everyone she met, turning strangers into friends and building lifelong friendships wherever life took her.
Sue enjoyed bingo, casinos, puzzles, chatting up any and all, and her Tuesday coloring group at Barnes & Noble. She was a very talented artist and finished a huge collection of coloring books.
Sue adored all of her grandchildren. She would often call just checking in and give a pep talk. She never missed a birthday or Christmas without a card and cash. She also shared an unbreakable bond with her remaining sibling – Martha Mullins of West Virginia – they talked every day.
Sue is survived by her husband Bill; her children, Bill Jr (Carla), Tara (Arlon), and Ken (Vicky); grandchildren, Chris (Amy), Ben (Kayley), Samantha (Ricky), Danny, and Jessica (Dale); great grandchildren, Ava, Hunter, Audrey, Everleigh, Oakleigh, and JJ; sister Martha Mullins of West Virginia; and her special “son from another mother” Joe Eberlin Chicago, IL – Ken's lifelong friend. She will be dearly missed.
