I was saddened to hear of Uncle Dick's passing. I did not know him well, but, I remember his friendliness and his warm smile. I remember when my mom passed away and Uncle Dick came to the wake and funeral in Maine. I was outside the funeral home and this man stood in front of me and said, "Do you know who I am?" Mind you, I had not seen Uncle Dick since I was 18 years old(last time I visited the Iowa farm). I said, "You are Uncle Dick." He never lost his friendliness and his warm smile. The loving obituary captured how he lived his life - with undying love for his family and his community. He may have physically left this earth too soon, but, he will be forever here in spirit. To his wife Kay, his children Anastasia, Lance, Natasha, and Karissa, please accept my sincere condolences for the passing of your husband and dad.

We are deeply grieved over Dick’s passing. He was a truly kind and giving person. He leaves behind a wonderful family who will greatly miss him and his great sense of humor. We will always remember you.

Uncle Richard was an incredibly wonderful person. The beautiful obituary really captures his spirit and life. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and husband. It’s a big loss but I imagine him in heaven right now with mom and dad and all the others. I loved uncle dick and wish I could join you today. Uncle dick was ring bearer at mom and dads wedding and we always lived visiting the farm with my uncle who was only 7 years older than me. And I think we need to make some ice cream in his memory! Please accept our deepest condolences

We are sorry to hear of Richard's passing. He really was always there with a friendly smile, at the Nature Center or just around town. That will be missed by many. Condolences for your loss.

Richard and his family have been my grandparents neighbors for as long as I can remember. Really wonderful people, and we are all saddened to hear of his passing. We extend condolences and love to you all. Ronald Blakey and Family

Kay and family, sorry to read of Richards passing. Have thought of you at different times. Remember our times at the TOPS meetings and side trips back in the 70's. Sorry for your loss and take care. Carol Hartwig

I was very sorry to learn of Uncle Dick’s passing. He was a wonderful incredibly selfless guy, much loved by all who knew him. My mom, Margie, often spoke of his childhood years. I can’t remember whether it was Dick or Bob who disappeared. The family looked and looked and finally found the rascal on the top of the windmill. He brought a lot of love and joy to many people. Deepest condolences to my cousins for their loss.

News of Rich's death brought both sadness and happy memories of his great help when he worked at the Indian Creek Nature Center. He was an enormous asset to the Center in many ways. Thoughts are with his family. Rich Patterson
