Tanis and Jeanie- so sorry to hear about Mike recently. Wish we had stayed in contact better through the years. Dennis is no longer in the legislature so we are at home more with our puppy,Penny, and horses. They all take time but enjoy it here. Christine is in Iowa City so go there some; would love to catch up with you when possible. Please take care and know we are thinking of you!

We are very sorry to hear about Mike' s passing. Have thought about you and Mike often. Lots of good times when Mark was at our house with Dannon. Still missed him at our 25th wedding trip to Mexico. Dannon married a hometown girl Jenni from Postville. They have 2 little boys. Tell Mark to keep looking. Nothing is more important than family, and you realize that at a time like this. I am sure Mike will be with you in spirit. Dale and Deb Mohs

We are so sorry to hear about Mike's passing. Mike and I go way back to the early seventies teaching at James Madison. We had a lot of fun coaching and teaching together. We had a great time in Kirksville Missouri getting our master degrees. We many hours playing chess, bar hopping and drinking more beer than we should have. It was a great summer. Will miss him greatly.

Dear Tanis, Mark, Jeanne and Matt & Family, Our deepest condolences to you! Yesterday around the Blum’s campfire at Knight Lake, we got the sad news of your loss, a big loss to all who ever knew Mike! He was a vital part of the history of this treasured place, as many have already written, always bringing a smile to whoever he met. He had a gift that made you feel like you were really important. And he was so very proud of you- his family. One sweet memory of him for me (Irene) was when I visited him in the cardiac unit at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau a couple years ago. He was trying to convince a very sweet and good looking nurse that she should look up his son Mark, who was also single and would be a very good catch (which I promptly confirmed). Mike will be greatly missed and long remembered!

So sorry to hear of Michael’s passing. We lived next store to the Muellers on 10th street in Burlington, and I remember when Marshall and Virginia brought him home for the first time. I was 14 or 15 when I started to babysit him, and it was a joy to watch him grow up. I can remember when he was in the 2nd grade, the teacher was talking about adoption. He raised his hand and proudly shared that he was adopted. As he got older, he would often come over and play with my own young children. And years later, he taught more of our kids at James Madison. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Tanis, I am so very sorry to read of Mike's transition to Heaven. I know Mike was a great leader, teacher, husband and father. I send you good thoughts, warm memories, hugs and healing as you journey through this challenging time. Just know my thoughts are with you. So sorry . Libba

Mr. Mueller was my high school principal, and he was always cheerful and kind. He had a great sense of humor, and he was always there to brighten someone's day. He had a way of making life a little easier for people. He will certainly be missed. Jeanne, I have always valued our friendship. He passed many of his admirable qualities to you. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers go to the family.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Mueller's passing. I worked at Postville High School when Mike was principal there. He always had a smile & good morning for you. He was always quick to help in the concession stand during track meets, if he saw we were short-handed. With sympathy & prayers for the family... a memorial gift to the Postville Area Ambulance will be made in his memory. Dave & Brenda Deering

It is sad to know that the world will have to be without this wonderful man. As a parent of former Postville High School Students, my memories and interactions with him are all positive and many are joyful and filled with laughter. This man could see beyond the immediate and into the heart of the matter. He was missed when he left our little town and he will be missed, now. A memorial has been given to the Postville District Dollars for Scholars in his honor.

So sorry to hear of Uncle Mike’s passing. Every time we came to visit in Burlington as kids it was always so much fun to see him. He would drive my sisters and I around to get ice cream or walk through the mall while our parents visited with the grandparents. He was always kind and generous and larger than life :-) We will miss you uncle Mike!

Sorry to hear of Mr. Mueller's passing. He was my favorite teacher at James Madison Middle School. He made science come alive. I used to love his Bucky Fuller quotes. Pretty deep stuff for 13 year olds! My favorite quote: "Never forget that you are one of a kind. Never forget that if there weren't any need for you in all your uniqueness to be on this earth, you wouldn't be here in the first place. And never forget, no matter how overwhelming life's challenges and problems seem to be, that one person can make a difference in the world. In fact, it is always because of one person that all the changes that matter in the world come about. So be that one person." R. Buckminster Fuller. RIP Mr. Mueller! You were years ahead of your time!

I was very saddened to read of Mike's passing. I went to High School in Burlington with Mike and engaged in various sports with him throughout that time. I had not seen him in years, but recently saw him at the Lighthouse in Cedar Rapids and had a brief but pleasant visit. Though I did not know his full history, it is clear he was a major influence on many people. I am sorry I did not have more contact with him. My condolences to the family.

Where you start at something is powerful...my start came in a Middle School hallway in Burlington, Iowa when a man, (Coach Mike Mueller), I looked up to, had the guts and foresight to challenge a kid to try something (wrestling) he'd never tried, to eventually become something (a Champion) he'd never been! Mike's exact words that day were, "Yates, I'll make you a better wrestler, than you'll ever be a football player." I believed him, and it changed my life forever! After hearing that my first Wrestling Coach, Mentor, Teacher and deeply respected friend, Mike Mueller has passed away. I was so sorry, and wanted to take this moment to express my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends! My prayers are with you all as you walk this journey of grief. May God sustain and strengthen you in the days ahead. My life was forever changed & still today is challenged, by the influence and impact of "Coach Mueller". I will forever be a "Spartan" at heart and will always remember not just the Coach, but the heart behind the Coach! Love you Mike. We are thinking about you during this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. A donation will be made to Postville Emergency Services (fire/ambulance) in Mike's memory. Art and Julie Heitland
