Marilyn was such a special lady! As former teachers, we shared many teaching moments. As a faithful member of Anna-Naomi circle, she shared many experiences and insights. She accepted my invitation to facilitate a breakout group for the virtual meeting of UMW March 6. My last conversation with her was when I called to discuss the breakout session. We shared memories of our experiences that related to the UMW session. After not reaching her by phone several times, I treasure that last conversation. She will always have a special place in my heart. With Christian love to her family, who meant so much to her, Genny Yarne

Mrs. Nelson was an excellent English teacher at Linn-Mar Sr. High School. She was very knowledgable and always demonstrated a keen interest in her students. In later years, I discovered that we were both patients at the same dental practice, and I enjoyed running into her there and catching up. It was a privilege to know her, and I shall miss her!

I had the privilege of teaching with Marilyn at Linn-Mar H.S. I don’t know if she ever realized how important she was in my maturing as an educator. Marilyn’s subtle comments and sage advice help me to understand the importance of professionalism. Her love of husband John and their family was enduring to everyone who knew her. May she rest in peace. Fondly, Harry Hakanson

Marilyn was a stellar English teacher!! I so enjoyed working with her at Linn-Mar HS! Her knowledge, sense of humor, and compassion for kids was unrivaled! She even helped me proofread my dissertation, and was a master of grammar and syntax!! Rest in peace, Marilyn! We're all better for knowing you!!!
