Bruce......it has been over 40 years and many moves since Cedar Rapids and our times at Taft and Harding........ we occasionally check the Gazette online and by chance came across the news of Karen's death......reminiscing brings back odd recalls like when you refinished your kitchen cabinets with barn boards....... more significantly we have warm memories of pleasant times with some really nice folks......with that there are no words......You and Karen are in our thoughts and prayers. Dick and Karla

Bruce and families: Your hearts are heavy, but your memories shall endure. The aura of Karen remains with you and will keep you strong. Rich Blessings, Bill Strilich

Mr. Chambers and family, I am so sorry to hear of your sweet wife's passing! I met her several times at school and at NC church. We're sending prayers for comfort, peace, and healing during this time of great sorrow! May our Great God wrap you in peace and give you the healing touch of His mighty grace! Deepest sympathy, Cindy Smith

What a shock! Our hearts go out to you Bruce and Clay and all your family and friends. We remember with a smile those Meadowbrook/26th Street neighborhood parties. Thanks for the memories.

To the Chamber family: Please accept our condolences on your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this most difficult time. We hope that comfort and peace come to you. We know that she will truly be missed. May God bless all of you. Jim and Carol Voss

Karen was my second cousin so I have lots of memories of her over the years. I remember family dinners in Dayton, the time when she and Bruce were in South America for the Peace Corps (which my class mates thought was the coolest thing ever!), her artistic abilities, and how much she resembled her mother Aunt Anne in later years. She will be sorely missed by the entire family. Condolences to Bruce, Clayton and Tammy, Morgan, Cindy and Steve. Ann Marie

We met Bruce and Karen in 1965 in Cedar Rapids as Bruce and David had accepted art teaching jobs in the district. Bruce was at Harding and David at Taft. David recalls that he met Bruce at the first art department meeting, struck up a conversation and they became immediate friends. And for the next 53 years we continue to meet and talk several times a year. They liked to come to Wisconsin and tour the art resources and yes, even the casinos. David and Karen participated in mutual art fairs in Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Be sure to ask Bruce about the “disastrous “ Baraboo Art Fair. Karen was a warm and a loving friend. Diane remembers that she always greeted you and said goodbye with an enormous hug! She loved her family and bragged about their son and especially their grand daughter. She was a true diehard democrat, but more than that, a concerned citizen and humanitarian mindful of others suffering from injustice. They generously shared their time share and we loved the trips to Estes Park, Las Vegas, Arkansas, and several other states. She was a clever card player and our marathon card games usually meant we were chasing Karen. David says he loved to debate with her, but could count the number of times he won on one finger. We loved her and will deeply and forever miss her. David and Diane Chalgren

Bruce, Cindy and your families, It seems like yesterday we met Bruce and Karen and each of our last 15 years’ annual gatherings felt like we’ve been great friends forever. Her insight, understanding and laugh were ever present sharing stories, pictures and ideas. Whatever Karen wanted to achieve, she made happen and she touched many lives. We know she is in heaven sharing her endless talents. We will miss Karen and will cherish what she and you, Bruce have shown us with the good memories over the years. May God lift you up and hold you close. Our deepest condolences are with you and your family. Bob and Nancy Frisk

Bruce and family, I am a watercolor artist who was happy to paint in the company of both you and Karen. She was a beautiful painter and person. My sincere sympathy to all of your family. Cindy Lynch
