Ellen "Joan" Heck, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026. She was born on June 22, 1943, in Bellflower, Illinois, the daughter of John and Sylvia (Patterson) Boman. She married Donald R. Heck on December 30, 1972 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sylvia; her sister, Sherry Fieldman; her husband, Donald Heck; and her beloved dog, Spot, who held a special place in her heart.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie Heck; stepsons, Bryan Heck and Kevin Heck; and stepdaughter, Shelley (Roger) Hutchins. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Devin Merrifield, Clinton Merrifield, Kara (Kaleb) Merrifield, Megan (Justin) Burns, Molly Heck, Matthew Heck, Andrew Heck, Mitchell (Laura) Hutchins, and Leah (Christian) Woods, as well as 13 great-grandchildren who brought her much joy.
Joan retired after a successful career with Quaker Oats, where she formed many lasting friendships that she treasured throughout her life.
She was an avid animal lover and shared her home and heart with many beloved dogs and cats over the years. Her faithful companion, Spot, was especially dear to her and was waiting to welcome her home.
Above all, Joan valued her family. She will be remembered for the love she shared, the friendships she made. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Private family service is being held with Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
