Mae was born May 20, 1923 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Nettie (Hammond) Stoltz. Mae attended Masonville Country School, Manchester Public School and graduated from Lamont High School in 1942. After graduating she worked in Manchester for Schultz’s Store. On June 11, 1944, she married Clarence Parkar Sheppard at the Methodist Church in Manchester, Iowa. They then lived on farms in the Manchester and Greeley area. In 1953 they then moved to a farm in Masonville, Iowa where they farmed until 1968. Moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mae then worked at Arlan’s and Collins.
In 2009 Clarence and Mae moved back to Masonville to be near their daughter, Shirley. In 2017 she then moved to the Circle of Life Missions in Strawberry Point, Iowa, and in 2018 moved to Edgewood Convalescent Home.
Mae is survived by two children, Shirley M. (Craig) Starr of Masonville and Larry L (Jean) Sheppard of Hiawatha. Five grandchildren, Chris (Mike) Eck of Elgin, MN, Susan (Rick) Starr Roby of Masonville, IA, Mark (Monica) Starr of Firth, NE, Clint (Abby) Sheppard of Sioux City, IA, Bart (Bethany) Sheppard of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Great grandchildren, Ashley & Alissa Eck, Tyler (Miranda) Tiemens, Emily, Joshua, Jacob, Madeline Starr, Austin, Ashlyn & Colton Sheppard, and Parkar & Lucas Sheppard.
She was preceded in death by husband Clarence in 2016, her parents Lewis and Nettie Stoltz and her brother, Gene Stoltz.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial to be held in Oakland Cemetery in Manchester, IA. Visitation will be held from 8:30-9:00 AM.
