Dorothy D. Long, 98 of Cedar Rapids died Friday September 14, 2018 at Living Center West. A private family graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters Carmen (Everett) Schacht of Cresco, Corriene Kos of Cedar Rapids, and a brother Larry Long of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Gregory, Brian, Neil, Tom, Gayle, and Mike; five great grandchildren; Amanda, Sarah, Kale, Nash, and Dade; and two great great grandchildren Jerra and Nathan
Dorothy was born on December 7, 1919 in Mt. Auburn the daughter of Homer and Irene Byous Coots. She married Carlos F. Long on January 7, 1939 in Vinton. Carlos passed away in 1974.
Dorothy was an inspector at Collins and retired from there after more than 17 years of service. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needle work, playing the piano and organ, as well as volunteering at Mercy Medical Center. Dorothy traveled with her sister and wintered in Arizona several years.
She will forever be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
