Barbara J Carter, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Mercy Medical Center. In accordance with Barbara’s wishes, a private graveside service was held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Barbara was born June 30, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Bernardine (Gardner) Primus. On July 18, 1970, she was united in marriage to Larry Carter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Barbara worked for Collins Radio Company. Outside of work, she enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved reading and listening to music, especially country and western music. One of her favorite pastimes was traveling on the motorcycle with Larry, enjoying the open road and the adventures they shared together.
She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Carter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; children, Rhonda Peck of Marion, Iowa; Mark (JoEllen) Carter and Sarah Randall (Darrell Crabtree) all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Lena, Joshua, Amber, Joshua and Jessica; her cats, Little Bit and Grey, and extended nieces, nephews, family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Bernardine Primus; her daughter, Wanda Allen; and her siblings, David Primus, Geraldine Hackbarth, and Rosalinda Tietge.
