Mary and family, I am so very sorry to learn of your loss of Carl. Always a kind, caring and a respectful educator Carl was an example for fellow teachers to follow. Hold those good memories close to your heart. Prayers and thoughts for you .... Carol Olson

Marcy, I was sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing. I remember when Deb, Karen, and I came with you from UNI for a weekend visit to Cedar Rapids. Your Mom and Dad were so kind and welcoming. I know how much you loved your Dad. Jim and I are praying for you, your Mom, Karen, Dave and all your family. Ann Stewart Wolfe

Mary, Marcia, Dave, and Karen, When we read of Carl's passing, we reminisced about our get-togethers with Carl, all of you, and our son when both of our families lived just off Glass Road. We gathered at your home and were always welcomed. Those are fond memories. So, too, are our memories of times we reconnected over the years and of conversations about one of our mutual interests - education. In those discussions there was never any doubt that Carl was kid-oriented whether as an administrator or teacher. Carl was one of the good guys. We are grateful that our paths crossed so many years ago. May you find comfort and peace in your many fond memories and in one another. With sympathy, John and Diane

The quality of a man's life is measured by how deeply he has touched the lives of others. Mary, what grand memories you and your family will cherish.

Dear Mary and family: Carl and my late husband Keith Walton grew up together in Troy Mills, IA. Whenever the four of us would get together for fun and good food Carl and Keith enjoyed reminiscing about their childhood experiences and the people they knew. Keith and I always enjoyed listening to the many happy experiences Carl and Mary had in their many travels. Carl was a kind and gentle man and he will be missed. My love, prayers and sympathy goes to the Carson family. Love, Yvonne

Dear Mary, Bill and I were so sad to learn of Carl's passing but as the hours passed so many good memories of spending time with you and Carl came to the forefront. A Promise of Health never would have become what it is today had it not been for Carl. Not one, but 2 motor homes donated, renovated by local volunteers and the first RV driven with Carl at the wheel, you by his side Mary and Bill and I trying to supervise, swaying in the back! The incredible trip took us without lasting mishap and no wheels falling off, to Mississippi, all the way to the home port of Linea Peninsula who transported it for free to the Port of Progreso, Mexico. As long as we live, the momentous memory of standing on the receiving dock with you and Carl, Carl beaming as the RV was gently lifted down off the deck, will be one of the highlights of our entire lives! As a result, thousands of people in dozens of villages throughout the Yucatan, received a doctor and medicine for the first time! Carl served, along with you Mary, for 8 years as a director on our Board. Carl was so kind, big hearted, dedicated, generous, energetic, creative and yes even funny...always smiling! Ready for adventure and a good story, that was Carl! As we read the beautiful tributes ahead of us here, Carl meant many enduring things to many people across generations. On behalf of all of us at A Promise of Health who came in contact with Carl over those many early years he actively served, both in the US and Mexico, we would like to say this: Carl will hold a special place in our hearts with grateful appreciation and respect for the giant of a man he was! Rest in peace Carl Carson for a life well lived! Your legacy of love lives on!

Dear Mary and family, I was so sad to find out about Carl's passing. He was truly a warm and wonderful person. He had such a way with families and students. I also loved seeing the two of you when we all worked out at Mercy Care North. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. We lost a very good man that won't be forgotten. Sending hugs, Beth, Sarah and Molly Washler

Yes, it is a sad time but Carl lives on in all the lives he's touched over the years. We remember the love and commitment you both had for A Promise of Health and other organizations where Carl gave of his time and talents. To us (and our boys) he will always be the smiling face of Mr. Jackson Jets!

Dear Mary and family. I was so sorry to hear of Carl's passing. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Karen Lyons

Dear Mary and Family: Linda and I send our most sincere condolences. Carl was a wonderful person and we are saddened to hear of his passing. He certainly was an outstanding educator and leader in the Cedar Rapids Schools for 36 years. We got to know him through the school system and working with Mary at McKinley JHS. Accept our sincere sympathy Mary. The loss of Carl must be so very difficult to accept, but all of your wonderful memories together will hopefully help you through this difficult time. We extend to you our best wishes. Wayne and Linda Martin

Mary and family, Bruce and I are so sorry for your loss. You and Carl were an integral part of St Andrew Lutheran Church and we have missed you smiling faces. We share our sympathies to you all at this difficult time. Hugs and prayers, Bruce and Karen Wolf

Your family is in our thoughts and prayers with Carl’s passing. We became friends through our shared interest in aviation, Taylorcrafts in particular. Carl was so glad to have located and purchase the Taylorcraft his dad had bought new. Carl was especially pleased with the restoration and know he was happy that his plane has landed in all of the lower 48 states in the past three years. Carl will long be remembered by so many.

I was very sad to hear that Carl had passed. He was always a great friend to me and I enjoyed visiting with him so much. He always had a smile and positive attitude to share with me . I used to kid him about storing his RV next to ours in the pole barn loaded with mice....I thought when his RV was there we shared the habitat for them and I did not get as many. Sorry Carl. We would like to extend our sympathy to Mary and family. He was a great influence in my life and we will miss him greatly. Hal and Carolyn Garwood

Dave - Holding you and your family in The Light. In prayer. Ruth

I read with sadness in my heart of Carl's passing. As my mother once told me late at night, "He's gone to the great hanger in the sky." Your husband and your kid's father was kind, quiet, gentleman, and I was privileged to have you and him in my life. I still use the philosophies you two taught me in that stress management course. Marcy, Karen and Dave, you were great kids during your time at Kennedy, a testament to your parents. Bless you all in this time. Harvey Hop

Carl was my friend and educational colleague for more than 50 years. I always appreciated the perspective he provided as he dealt with students. We were both social studies teachers and administrators. He made a positive difference whatever he did. I join with Mary and his family in celebrating his life. He made a difference. William C. Jacobson Fellow educator.

Mary and family, I am so sorry to hear of Carl’s passing. I know he is now at peace and hopefully all of you can be consoled in knowing what a caring and wonderful husband, father, school leader, and community member he was. I feel honored that we were neighbors on Alleghany and that Carl and I worked together as school leaders in Cedar Rapids for many years. He will be greatly missed!

Mary, On behalf of the Crystal Estates Board, our sincere sympathy for the loss of your husband, Carl. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Gretchen Sealls

Mary and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. It was my good fortune to have Carl as my Principal for several years. He was always thoughtful and considerate of both students and staff. He will certainly be missed. Parker Waddington

Mary, Marcia, Karen and Dave. As Mary is aware Carl (Mr. Carson) was a major influence in my life. As a seventh grader at Wilson Jr. High 1961 he let me be the manager of the tennis team and from that point on I observed for the next 57 years a person who cared deeply about others and demonstrated the right way to be a teacher, coach, administrator, friend and most importantly, a man. Few people in my life have had the influence on me like Mr. Carson and I will be eternally grateful for the privilege of knowing him. Without a doubt I am a better man today in part because of his mentoring! Mary, you have my deepest condolences as well as the entire family! Mr. Carson will be greatly missed but his influences will continue to live on in the lives of those who were blessed to know him!

Mary—I was sad to hear that Carl had died as his presence was always kindly during the several years that he and I worked together. I always made a point to learn from my colleagues that which they did particularly well. In Carl’s case, it was easy to see that he respected and cared for everyone irrespective of their circumstances. I always knew that I would be treated fairly and that Carl had the students upper-most in his mind. He will be missed.

Dear Mary, Marcia, Dave, and Karen. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. When I saw this picture of Carl, I recognized our old family friend with his adorable smile immediately! I'm not sure how far back Carl & Mary go with Dick & Veryl, but I remember our families living together on Loraine Street! And of course, all of the years at school and St. Andrews. Many good memories and much love. ? jane
