Joyce Irene Henderson, 85, of Arlington, Iowa passed away Christmas day at Crestview Acres in Marion, Iowa.  The care and compassion by the nursing home and hospice staffs are gratefully appreciated.

Joyce was born on August 15, 1932 at the farm home of her parents, Wayne and Bessie (Goodlove) Henderson, Central City, Iowa.  She graduated from Coggon High School where she excelled at basketball.  She continued to play professionally for a short time.  Following graduation from the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, Iowa, she was a stenographer at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and Newport Beach, California; then moved to Arlington, Iowa.

Joyce attended barber school and, along with close friend Bobbie Peake, had shops in Arlington and Elkader.  Together they shared a home in Arlington and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, pinochle, auctions, and traveling. Joyce also had a keen interest in genealogy.  Both loved their cats, Joe and Priscilla.

Joyce embraced life with great enthusiasm and generously provided help and support to family and friends.  She was a loving caregiver to her mother for years and also to Bobbie.

She is survived by two sisters, DeVee Sauer of Marion, Iowa and Betty Mills of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Belva Caryl and Joanna Anderson; three brothers, Hillis, Victor, and John; and her long-time partner Bobbie Peake.

Per Joyce’s wishes, cremation has taken place at Cedar Memorial, and she requested no funeral service.  Her ashes will be interred in the family cemetery in Central City at a later date.
