Charles C. Kimura, M.D., passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2013, surrounded by his family. Per his wishes there will be no public service in Cedar Rapids. A family service will be held in Hawaii, where he and his wife, Evelyn, will be inurned at The Valley of the Temples in Kaneohe, Hawaii.He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn. He was also preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.He leaves behind his four children, Dr. Stephen Kimura (Amy), Pensacola, Fla., Dr. Lyla Schweiger (Dr. Gary), Cedar Rapids, Dr. Liane Donovan (Greg), Lincoln, Neb., and Larissa Noelker (Joel), Olathe, Kan.; and 10 grandchildren.Dr. Kimura was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Washington University in St. Louis and Tulane University Medical School. He completed his residency at Charity Hospital and Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans. He was a captain in the United States Air Force Medical Corps at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.He began his allergy practice in Kansas City, where he also served as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He relocated to Cedar Rapids in 1985 when he took over the Allergy and Asthma Clinic. He was joined in practice by his daughter, Dr. Lyla Schweiger, in 1995.Dr. Kimura practiced at the Allergy and Asthma Clinic P.C. in Cedar Rapids for 26 years. He was recently honored by the Linn County Medical Society for his contributions to the medical community. He greatly enjoyed working with his patients and dearly missed the practice of medicine.Dr. Kimura loved to tell tales of his childhood growing up in Hawaii, and would always have recommendations for special places to visit and good things to eat for travelers to the islands. In his later years, he was able to travel with his wife, Evelyn, throughout the United States. They also traveled to Canada, Asia, Australia and Europe. He loved sharing his stories with his beloved grandchildren.Dr. Kimura was proud of his legacy, seeing all four of his children enter the practice of medicine or physical therapy. His legacy will continue as his oldest grandchild, Kyle, is in his first year of medical school.Condolences may be mailed to the Allergy and Asthma Clinic, 4301 First Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Lung Association or the charity of your choice.
