The Herkelman, Lawrence and Dykhuizen families sadly announce the passing of their beloved Mom/Nana, Lynda Aline Jones (75) on Saturday, February 24, 2024.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Terrace Glen Village.

Lynda was born on October 3, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa. She was an only child to Forrest and Garnet Morrison.  Mom graduated from Washington High School in the spring of 1966 and on September 10th she married her high school sweetheart and husband of 56 years Paul Jones.  Later that fall, she followed dad as he went off to basic training in Missouri and then deployed to Wiesbaden, West Germany.  Coming back to the states in 1970, with their first born (Dawn) they were then blessed with their second daughter (Debbie) in 1971.  They moved to California in 1974, as dad transitioned from military service to a job with the USPS and then welcomed their third daughter (Doreen) in 1977.  The family of 5 moved back to Cedar Rapids in the spring of 1984, returning to Mom’s childhood home on the NE side of Cedar Rapids.

At the time of her death, she felt comforted knowing she’d be reunited with her husband again, felt blessed to have her daughters, who loved her dearly, by her side as she battled health issue after health issue this past year and grateful for her seven grandchildren all of whom she absolutely adored and were her purpose in life.

After raising her three girls, Mom was proud of her 30+ year career that began with the John Q Hammond hotel, eventually becoming the Marriott on Collins Rd. She was extremely proud of her family and the laughter that was constantly present when we were together.  She loved making her flowerpots in the spring and taking care of them all summer long, family gatherings, pontoon rides at Delhi, good food and country music, particularly Sunday mornings with KHAK.  And she LOVED Duck Dynasty, Swamp People and Dr Pol most of all.

Lynda is survived by her daughters Dawn Herkelman (Stan), Deborah Lawrence (Richard) and Doreen Dykhuizen.  Her seven grandchildren Joshua/Brandon Lawrence, Connor/Dalton/Madison/Kaiya Dykhuizen and Sammy Herkelman, as well as her faithful sheltie Rudy and her brother-in-law James Jones.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul Jones, her parents Forrest & Garnet Morrison, her son James Robert and her beloved sheltie Buck.

A special thank you to her eldest grandson, Joshua, for his sustained support, love and companionship for his Nana during this last year, which proved so incredibly difficult for our family.
