Sue - Harwood, as we always called her then - was a major part of my experience at Mt. Mercy. We were the two "foreigners" (yes, we were actually called that) from out-of-state, she from Illinois and I from Massachusetts. We spent much of our Mt. Mercy time together - hanging out, having dinners - and food fights- in the penthouse, singing in choir, a road trip to her house for Thanksgiving, and having conversations with topics on saving the world. :) She set up my blind date with Floyd, who became my husband, and she blessed our wedding with her amazing singing voice. Her delightful and infectious laugh is seared into my memory. Ah, Sue, you made the world a better place. Requiescat in pace, my friend.

I worked with Sue for 20 years on the Child/Adolescent Unit. I always felt when I was working with Sue- she was very knowledgable and caring with the kids on the unit. The only issue we had was— when someone said Sue- what Sue where they looking for. When my daughter was married I asked Sue to sing at her wedding. She said of course. She had a beautiful voice. I know she wii certainly be missed by all who knew her. Rest in piece my friend.

This world is one remarkable spirit, mind, voice, and loving heart poorer for Sue’s passing. She worked her many magics in humility wrapped in fierce conviction. Her voice was one of the finest I ever knew, informed by the humorous buoyancy of her soul. Surely angels welcome Sue to her Neverending Song.

Why won’t my phone put a heart there? Keeps coming up?? Love you Sue. Darn phones!

That should say friend with a heart?? Sue! LOL

Sue was a long time patient of mine at the 2 dental offices I worked at here in Cedar Rapids. Always looked forward to seeing her in my schedule! I grew up in Mt. Prospect, IL so we had many stories to share about growing up in the same area. I so enjoyed her sense of humor, she kept me laughing while I cleaned her teeth! She was very passionate about her work, her church and singing and always kept me updated on her two nephews who she loved dearly and was so proud of. My condolences and prayers to her family and her friends who were lucky enough to know her! Fly high Sue and sing with the angels. You will be missed friend??

I worked with Sue on the Child/Adol Unit at St. Luke's. What a great woman! She loved those kids as if they were her own and found the good in each. She was so fun to work with and so wise. So caring and kind. Always proud to tell us about her nephews and what they were up to! Sing with the Angels, Sue. You are now one of them in Heaven as you were to so many on Earth.

I met Sue about 45 years ago, not even sure where and saw her very seldom over the years..... but she never forgot a person she met. Amazing gal. Kind. And her humor. The photo of her here is just how I remember her. My sympathies.

When I was new to this area I met Sue and she was instantly warm and welcoming, with that ever present sense of humor! I will always recall her beautiful singing. Her voice was just beautiful in richness and tone, and she was so humble about that. I loved the many "nights out" dinners we shared with her friend Rick. We loved exploring a new restaurant. I did not know she was gravely ill. I will miss calling her with a good catch up conversation. She loved her Chicago area home and her brother. I loved the photos she shared of her trips to and from Chicago as she drove across Iowa. Rest well, my friend.

I worked with Sue at the Grant Wood Studio—always professional and a great sense of humor!

I was so shocked to heR of Sue's passing. She was such a kind soul who was there for everyone.I worked with Sue for the last 4 years and enjoyed talking with her and she had such a great sense of humor...My condolences go out to Sue's family...She will so be missed by all who knew her... Denise

I will always remember Sue from my days at Mt Mercy. My favorite recollection will always be her coming down to our on campus residence apt, her beautiful voice and her guitar, playing Two Hangmen by Mason Profitt…a moment frozen in time…
