Martin Tomkins (70) of Cedar Rapids passed away on January 16, 2022 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday January 25, 2022 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories starting at 2pm with a public visitation before the service from 1pm-2pm. Martin Leroy Tomkins was born June 18, 1951 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Lylo and Dorothy Tomkins. He was a graduate of Kennedy High School. Martin was united in marriage to Janet Ellerbeck on September 4, 1976 in Cedar Rapids.
Martin was a Christian of the first coming. I am a Christian of the second coming. When something needed to be done, we did it together. I will never find another like Martin. Jesus the Christ’s new name is Baha’ ‘u’ llah.
Martin worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 40 years prior to retiring. His lifelong hobby was collecting stamps. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Stamp Club. In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Stamp Club CRST, PO Box 2554 Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52406.
Martin is survived by his wife Janet Tomkins; brother James Tomkins, nephew William Ellerbeck, niece Kathy Ellerbeck (husband George Boyer); and his grand nephews Eryn Ellerbeck and Herbert Boyer.
