So sorry to learn of Luman's passing. He was my high school band director throughout my high school years in Denison, IA. He was and still is, in my heart, a huge influence in choosing my life's work. I have many fond memories to carry with me.

I was so blessed during high school to have Luman Colton as band instructor. The years of band, flute playing, and marching form some of my best memories of Jefferson High School. Mr. Colton was a gifted musician who strove for the best from his students and to share the excellence and beauty of music with others. He made a long- lasting impact on many lives. He will be deeply missed! My sympathies and prayers to the family today and in the days to come.

I knew Luman for about 65 years and he certainly was a true friend and a good man. From Luman and family picking me up to go to church prior to Sunday School so I could accompany his youth choir to him serving as best man in my wedding to Kay, Luman was so cherished by me as one I could rely upon for true friendship. Kay and I will greatly miss him as will so many others who crossed paths with Luman. Sharon, our deepest sympathies are with you. David Basler

I have such fond memories of Luman, mostly from tennis. He was a true gentleman and a gentle man. I know how much you will miss him, Sharon. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Marybess Chester

100 years of Luman Colton. What a gift to all of us who knew and loved this kind, accomplished, generous and good-humored man. I am sad that he is gone, but it makes me smile to know he reached the century mark. It seems a fitting cap to a life so well lived.

Mr. Colton was my first clarinet teacher (playing has been a lifelong love) and being in his high school band was such a huge part of my early life. He was also a neighbor and I have fond memories of Sunday evening suppers at the Colton home. He impacted so many young people and I remember him with gratitude and love.

A true gentleman, a great educator and a not-half-bad tennis player! Rest in peace, Mr. Colton. I hope to see you one day at the Breakfast at Wimbledon Party in Heaven.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Colton's passing. He will be remembered as a truly amazing teacher, mentor, and friend. Whether it was showing incredible patience during my years of clarinet lessons, or vibrant directing and leadership of the Jefferson Band Program, his love of music always showed through. He will be deeply missed.

Luman Colton was my friend. We worked together at Jefferson High school where he was band director and I was his principal. A fine man, a good musician, and a great teacher. I join his family in celebrating his life. He always left things better than he found them. Luman loved music and he loved working with students. He made our lives better. Well Done. William C. Jacobson Retired Jefferson Principal.

Thoughts and prayers go out to those who loved this special man!! I have many fond memories associated with, and because of him, while playing flute in his Jefferson High School Marching and Symphonic Band!!!

My sympathies and condolences go out to the generations of families and friends of Luman. As military veterans, we had an unspoken bond. We met in 2016 in the New Horizons Band. He was greatly loved by all and will be greatly missed. Continue to have fun and enjoy yourself with all above in heaven. Love you and miss you.

My favorite teacher in Junior high. He will be truly missed!
