Richard “Dick” L. Truxaw, 92, long time resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died from kidney failure Thursday, September 9, 2021, in his residence at the Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids.  A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday September 28 at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids.  Visitation will be at 10:00 am prior to the service.

He is survived by his wife, Iona, daughter Gail L. (Douglas) Lotts of Marion, Iowa, and son Dick M. (Christy) Truxaw of Flagler Beach, Florida, five grandchildren: Lisa Lotts and Karen Lotts both of Portland, Oregon, Crystal (Nathan) Flanery of Lexena, Kansas, Hannah (Edward) Ernst of Shawnee, Kansas, and Brian (Martha) Truxaw of Shawnee, Kansas.  He also survived by nine great-grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Born the son of Leon P. and Florence (Kloos) Truxaw on February 28, 1929, in Iowa City, Iowa, he married Iona Mae Moore on May 10, 1952, in San Diego, California. Dick graduated from City High in Iowa City, Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa prior to enlisting in the US Navy, where he served during the Korean Conflict.  Following his discharge from the Navy, Dick and Iona moved to Cedar Rapids where he at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 33 years, retiring in 1983.  

He enjoyed a good game of golf and always looked forward to family vacations out West, particularly the Black Hills of South Dakota.  He found pleasure working around the house and caring for their yard.   He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Christ Episcopal Church was an important part of his life.  He was frequently at church helping in some capacity.  He was a lay reader, trained acolytes and was also a worship leader.  Dick and Iona spent many years living between their home in Cedar Rapids and their condo on the Atlantic Ocean in Flagler Beach, Florida.
