Phyllis Faye Ritchie, 93, of Cedar Rapids passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, September 20, 2021.

She was born on November 28, 1927, to John and Helen (Johnson) Von Spreecken in Wyoming, Iowa. Phyllis attended the University of Iowa. She was married to Keith Pence from 1949 to 1967. She was later united in marriage to James (Jimbo) Thomas Ritchie on September 21, 1979, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Phyllis loved to entertain, serving her family and friends her famous hanky panks, shrimp cocktails and of course, oyster shooters. She was a lifelong Hawkeye fan rooting on the Hawks with her Hawkeye whistle and dammit doll. She also loved her and Jimbo’s cabin at Lake Delhi, taking grandkids and friend’s children on pontoon rides and jumping off Big Rock. She was famous for her Christmas cookies and candies that she gave to friends and mailed to family living in different states. Never shy, always outspoken, Phyl was also known for her compassion, generosity, and loyalty to her friends.

She is survived by her children, Penny Pence of San Diego, California, Brad (Frankie) Pence of Pacifica, California, Tim (Megan) Pence of Cherokee, Iowa; grandchildren, Ryan (Kimberly) Pence of Carlsbad, California, Chad (Julie) Pence of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dustin (Andrea) Pence of Waunakee, Wisconsin, Amanda (Jason) Mangus of Marion, Indiana, Sammie Pence of Hartford City, Indiana; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse Jim, brother Ray, and sister Betty Mae.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family or Camp Courageous. The date for her Celebration of Life will be announced.
