Dr. Loeing saved my life. i was diagnosed with embyrnal germ cell carcinoma of testicular origin in the fall of 1983, and he and his staff saved my life. after 20 weeks of chemo i remember him being present at my january 1984 thoracotomy by dr hirostka. god bless you dr loening!

Dear Vera and Family, I awoke early yesterday and thought of Stefan as I was praying. I looked up and saw online his obituary and news of his recent death. I am so sorry for your loss. Stefan was very dear and had a huge impact on me as he was the first Physician supervisor I had as a new PA in 1982. He was kind and encouraging to me in both using and developing my gifts. When I asked him if I could offer to pray with patients, he agreed, asking only that I talk with him about my experiences. He wanted to understand this side of caring for patients. He challenged me to look at data we had collected and see what I could see there. This lead to a paper written and published - only one of many of his, but he inspired all around him to look and see and share insights for the care of patients. He was a dear mentor but also had a jolly laugh, and could both take an give a joke. I once dressed up with friends for Halloween and we showed up at his door. He did not know who we were...but he knew it was someone who knew him! Finally, we all laughed hard when he realized it was me - someone he worked with every day! I was disguising my voice... I visited Iowa City maybe 12 years ago and ran an errand to the Hy-Vee. As I walked in the parking lot, a car veered close to me and I jumped away! He rolled down the window, and laughed and we had a good chat there. Thank you God for Stefan, for his huge role in mentoring me as a "fresh out of school" PA. Thank you for his expecting excellence, and his help to make that happen. Thank you for the way his openness to You, allowed me many years of integrating faith, and prayer into medical practice, which allowed me to see Your healing work in souls and lives in the midst of cancer and many other medical conditions. I am grateful for this gift of 5 years to work with him at the start of decades of work in medicine. Come around this passing Lord, welcome him to the heavenly inheritance you have for him. Bless his legacy behind, and draw each one to your truth and grace. Amen. Kathy Henry (Krueger)
