To all the Srameks, extended family and anyone that was lucky to be a friend of Jim Sramek. My sincere condolences. I met Jim at Regis, he was a year behind my class but quickly became a friend and eventually; fellow transfer to CR Washington. I don't ever remember a bad time when I was in Jimmy's company, so many laughs. He was a good man. Something I'm extremely grateful for is the friendship he had with my brother. God's peace Jimmy.

So sorry to all the Srameks. I always loved visiting Cedar Rapids because of all of you. When I was 16 I visited with Janice and my mom. I spent a lot of the visit hanging out in the Sramek basement playing pool and drinking Jim’s Old Style. The day before we were leaving my mom told me that Jim wanted to talk to me before we left. Sheer panic set in because I thought Jim was mad at me for drinking his beer and he was going to tell my mom, etc. But he just wanted to be sure to say goodbye before we left. I confessed I drank a few of his beers and offered to pay for them - but he just laughed and said don’t worry about it. A gentle and genuinely nice man indeed. I wish I had known him better.

John and Sramek family - my sincere condolences on your loss. I initially knew Jim as the kid brother however after crashing at his Seattle apartment (85th and NW15th) for a few nights, I understood he has easy-going, had a good sense of humor, he was kind and caring (plus better looking than his brother). Rest In Peace Jim. Bob Beals

John and Sue my heart breaks for you. John, you have shown such faithful selfless loving support to your brother Jimmy. I believe he is now in Heaven with his creator and savior and is surrounded by limitless joy and love, and Conrad was in the company who welcomed him there. Its awful here on earth having to go on without Jimmy. I pray God blankets you with comfort and peace, knowing you made Jimmys earth days so filled with happiness, and I pray He blesses you with love and comfort from those of us still here around you. God bless you.

To Judy Lehman and family. So sorry to hear of your loss. I think Jim was in with that group with my brother Bobby. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and whole family.

We are sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Scott and Terrie Seibert

John, Susan, & the Sramek Family, Very sorry to hear the news, Jimmy was a sweet guy, always happy to see him when we crossed paths. Loved his fishing , and always wanted me to know he caught more, & bigger fish than his Big Brother.

Although I never met Jim, I feel as though I know him through his brother, John. The apples never seem to fall far from the tree or in this case the apples that fall must be similar in nature. I know from John’s qualities that Jim’s qualities must also encompass compassion, kindness, a great sense of humor, humility, gentleness, reverence for life and all living things, the knowing power of a kind word or gesture, hospitality and an easiness with being around people that immediately puts them at ease and feel good in their presence. Heaven rejoices for Jim’s entrance and we on Earth feel the loss and pain of no longer having him here. Be encouraged, we shall all see him again! May God bless the life and soul of Jim Sramek and grace loved ones with the peace that surpasses all understanding. With deep sympathy and love, Cheryl and John Docherty

To the Sramek Family -- I was so very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was such a kind, gentle and handsome man. Back in the mid-80's, I was working at a law firm, here in CR, and I would always be working in my office later in the evenings. Jim would be in our office painting, and I always thoroughly enjoyed seeing and visiting with him. I will certainly miss running in to him every once and again. He was definitely way too young, and Heaven has certainly gained a new angel. Sending much love, and many thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Very Sincerely, Sheri Sturdivan-O'Donnell

Jim and I first met when I was in the middle of 3rd grade when we moved and transferred from IC to St. Matthews. We were in the bathroom and a couple kids were picking on the “new guy” when Jim said they better stop. He has an older brother on the football team. Had my back from the start. We had tons of great times together, not just in CR-Iowa City, but in Yellowstone National Park, Bozeman, MT; Seattle, WA; camping in Olympic NP, visiting Crater Lake NP, San Francisco, Salt Lake City and places in between. We shared a great love of music and sports. Lots of pickup basketball games. We had the “give and go” down. I would set up around the top of the key and he’d pass me the ball and take off. I’d feed him back and he’d go in for the score. Worked all the time. We saw Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Downtown Freddy Brown at the old Kingdome. We also saw a lot of great music acts. The Sons of Champlin in Iowa City. Johnny Winter in Palo Alto, CA. More at the Fieldhouse, many times with sister Jane. We had the same friendship from beginning to end. That speaks for itself. He was kind and always had a smile and happy to see you. Best wishes to Jim’s family and friends. Sincerely, Mike Bader

Dear John,Judy,Joyce, and Janice and Families, I’m so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.I don’t know if you have ever heard of the pennies from heaven story. The ones we love send us Pennies to let us know they’ve made it to heaven and are looking down watching over us and still with us in our hearts. Look for the pennies that Jim will be sending you. It is such a comfort to know they are still with you if not physically,in your heart. Love and prayers

This one hurts, Jim is one of the nicest, sweet guys I’ve ever met. Lots of great memories that I will savor. Hope you all find peace in your memories.

To the Sramek families: Heartbroken to learn of my old pal’s passing. Lots of great times, fond memories and shared laughs with “Cookie” and so many conversations about our favorite sports teams. Pickup basketball on Sunday’s at IC, trips into Chicago for Cubs games, knot-hole section at Kinnick, Hawks basketball and concerts at the Field House, road trips to other shows, an epic spring training journey to Arizona, and cheering on the SuperSonics in back to back NBA Finals in ‘78 and ‘79 . . . just to name a few memories with Jim. He was a good man. Too young to see him go, but he’ll have good company in heaven. Prayers, love, peace and God’s blessings to John, Judy, Janice and Joyce, and to all the Sramek families and their friends. God be with you as you mourn Jim’s passing, and prepare to celebrate his life.

Sending thoughts and prayers for your family Mary Shulgin
