Richard “Dick” Elmer Norton, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed way Tuesday, September 18, 2018, AT St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.  A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, September 21, 2018.  A Private Graveside Service with Military Rites will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Nola “Nadine”; son, David (Diane) of Toddville; grandson, Derek (Laura) of Smyrna, Georgia; and great grandchildren Samantha and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard was born November 4, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Elmer and Neva (Geist) Norton. Richard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On September 5, 1947, he married Nola Nadine Wolverton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Richard worked at Sears in Cedar Rapids from 1960 until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 298. He was an avid golfer, Cubs and Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing. Dick and Nadine enjoyed the many trips to Branson with their Legion friends. Richard was a fun-loving, kind and caring man and will be greatly missed by his family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff and “Family” at the Hiawatha Care Center, and to Dr. Mary Nelson for providing excellent care for Richard for the last 4 ½ years. Also to the compassionate care from the St. Luke’s Hospice Staff for his final days.
