Allen Ludwig Smith (75) of Marion died August 5, 2018 at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. A celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, August 15 with a 10:00am visitation and 11:00am service at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.
Allen was born February 6, 1943 to parents Norval and Jean (Miller) Smith in Alden, Iowa. He grew up in Iowa Falls, Iowa and graduated from Iowa Falls High School. In his sophomore year, he met Sharon Kay Jacobson and they have been together ever since. Allen received an Associates degree from Ellsworth Community College. On August 14, 1964, Allen and Sharon were married and moved to Cedar Falls where he graduated from UNI with a BA in Industrial Arts.
Throughout his career, Allen worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing, Valeron Corporation, Sundstrand, Sandvik and Clairco Tool Company in various sales and engineering roles. He retired from Clairco in 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Allen is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon Smith; two sons, Steve (Tisha Morris Wilson, fiancé and daughter Madison) Smith, Brad (Laurie) Smith; three grandchildren, Kassie (Shawn Taylor, fiancé) Smith, Bryce Smith and Hannah Smith; sister Lynette Smith; and dogs Tiger and Lily.
Allen was a special person who loved trains, woodworking, science fiction movies and spending time with his family.
The family extends gratitude to friends, family and neighbors for their help and support. A special thanks to the Unity Point Inpatient and Outpatient Hospice staff, Unity Point and PCI physicians, nurses and staff, and the staff at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or Cedar Valley Humane Society in memory of Allen.
