I was fortunate enough to work with Carolyn at Roosevelt for many years. Carolyn was a champion for social justice as well as special populations. She had a tremendous impact on many students and staff members, and her positive outlook was contagious. She will be greatly missed.

I worked at Roosevelt for many of the same years as Carolyn. I was fortunate to be a member of her administrative team. She influenced the direction of my career in education. At her retirement, I read the following passage from Theodore Roosevelt. It spoke to her work in education, as well as her to her journey the last 10 years. “It is not the critic who counts; not the woman who points out how the strong woman stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the woman who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends herself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if she fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that her place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.” Carolyn was my champion. She was my advocate, my mentor, my friend. I will miss her dearly.

To Carolyn's family - I'm sorry for your loss. Carolyn was an amazing principal and later after retirement came to become a dear friend. I looked forward to our monthly dinner outings with former Roosevelt folks. Throughout her illness Carolyn had a positive outlook through very difficult treatments. She will be missed but never forgotten.

Dear family and friends, please accept my deepest condolences. May God's promises found at Acts 24:15 and Psalms 37:29 bring you comfort during this difficult time.

Prayers up for you tonight Mrs. Cleveland. May Our Lord hold you in his arms until your soul can be united with the rest of your family on the other side. Always a Champion for special needs children, you were way ahead of the times in terms of compliance and accommodation. Your work during this life will not soon be forgotten. Prayers up also for your family as they endure this very difficult time.

Carolyn was such a fantastic advocate for my son Matthew when he attended Roosevelt. I think all the teachers there thought that the mold when Matthew was born. But the same can be said of Carolyn. She was a one of kind lady who will be truly missed and made a difference in this world. Prayers to her family.

We knew Carolyn professionally, Ron in the education system and Sue in the human services world, and we have great respect for her work and her positive manner. Our sympathy to Jonathan and the entire family.

I was fortunate enough to work with Carolyn for many years. I first met her when she worked for Grant Wood AEA in a Special Education capacity. I was a school counselor at Roosevelt. Then I worked with her at Roosevelt for many years. She always gave her all, and was a very energitic individuial. We shared tears, laughter and fun. I am sorry for your loss. But knowing Carolyn I know she made every minute count these last ten years. You have wonderful memories. I thank you, her family for sharing her with those of us who had the opportunity to know and work with her.
