Robert George Janney, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, June 6, 2016. Memorial Service: 1:00 pm Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Robert was born on January 20, 1935, son of Margurite (Moore) and Loring Janney in Muscatine on a very cold day. On December 31, 1970, he was married to Karen Gueller.

Robert served in Navy ROTC during school. He then served active duty in the Navy from 1956 to 1960 where he was a proud member of an elite group called AEWRON 15, an air early warning radio warning system in Newfoundland. After the Navy he was requested to report to Washington DC to work for Page Communications where he worked for the Department of Defense as an Installation Technician installing spy antenna in Turkey and other countries for the United States. He travelled extensively during his years with Page until he came stateside and went to work for Collins Radio in 1965. He worked for Collins during it's merger into Rockwell Collins until 1998 at which time he retired.

Robert was a lifetime Episcopalian and a faith-filled man. He enjoyed studying the Bible with friends and singing in the St. John's choir. Although he was a quiet man, Bob had a wicked sense of humor and often garnered much joy from simple things such as his beloved pets. He truly enjoyed reading, good jazz, watching television (especially NCIS) and old movies. As well as tinkering with electrical equipment or being a rabid Hawkeye fan who cracked teeth while watching games.

Christmas was Bob's favorite time of the year. Collecting Santas and working on his Christmas village or making chocolate candy was fun for him. Watching Charlie Brown and the gang or enjoying It's a Wonderful Life or the Bishop's Wife kept him entertained during many holiday seasons.

Going to Washington High School games with his friends and Karen; reading Tidbits and having Sunday breakfast at HyVee with family and friends or quietly being anywhere with Karen and singing You Are My Sunshine to her pleased him. His greatest love was family. Each member of his family meant everything to Robert. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and loved each of them deeply.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Karen; son, Kyle (Misty); daughter, Ann Marie (Marc) Kirkland; four grandchildren, Ashton, Benjamin, Mathias, and Kaylee; Sister-in-law, Pauline Janney; cousin, Kerry Moore, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and two sisters.
