My family lived next door to Rod & his parents at 1009 Harold Dr in Cedar Rapids from 1955 - '67. Rod was a good friend to me & my brother Jeff. The three of us played baseball in his backyard and watched "Dark Shadows" in his basement. His mom took us to see movies in downtown Cedar Rapids at the Paramount Theater. Even as a youth Rod was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. My family returned to Cedar Rapids in 1972 and we saw his mom but Rod was at school. My brother Jeff visited Cedar Rapids in 1975 and saw his mom, but Rod wasn't available. Rod was a good person and a good friend. Sincerely, Ken Moore

I met Rod at Souvenir. He would stop to talk with me when I arrived for second shift and he was leaving for the day. He always asked about my cats and how my day was going. He often joked with me and made me laugh! He said he wanted to go back to Hawaii some day and how everyone should visit there. I told him I didn't want to fly over the ocean and he said it was no big deal, that I should go anyway. Rod is in the true 'Paradise' now! I will miss him greatly, he was a wonderful person.
You have my deepest sympathy.
Sincerly,
Darlene Van Meter

I really enjoyed being able to work with Rod for the time that he was at Norwood Souvenir. I always knew to check the sports page before I came to work so that when I went by his work area we could "discuss" the games from the previous day. My sons went to Iowa State so I really had to be current on the scores from Iowa State. So many of the people I supervise enjoyed Rod and enjoyed talking sports with him. It was a sad day when we found out that he wasn't going to be able to come work with us because of his health. I am so glad that some of my associates were able to visit him at Methwick. They brought us back updates on how he was doing. Rod will leave a lasting impression on all of us. I know I am proud that I can say I had the opportunity to get to know Rod and I will look forward to seeing him again someday in that special place in heaven.

I shared the same lunch time as Rod and I always looked forward to talking sports and baseball with him. It always amazed me how he could remember all of these stats. I really got the biggest kick out of him picking on all of the Cubs fans who shared the same lunch time. I will miss him.

Rod has been part of our Linn County MHDD family for many years. Whenever he would see me, he used to come to "attention", say "Ten-Hut!", and salute. I would return his salute and say, "At ease, Rod. Carry on." He always had a big smile for me and brightened my day. I will miss him. Now for the last time, I salute you, Rod. At ease. Carry on.

I worked with Rod at Silliker in 1999-2000. When I told him I graduated from Arizona State University, he always referred to me as "Arizona State" with a big smile on his face. He enjoyed chatting about football, talking about Hawaii, and was always enjoyable to work with. He will be missed.

It was my pleassure to be a co- worker with Rod for the last couple of years at Norwood Souvenir. One time Rod over heard me talking about my son who is a swimmer at one of the Cedar Rapids High Schools. He then procedeed to tell me about his own swimming experience. Nearly each and everytime I saw Rod after that conversation he would visit with me and exchange a story about a recent sporting event. Useally the Iowa Hawkeyes, or the Minnosota Vikings, and he always took the time to ask me how my son was doing. Rod always put a smile on my face and I am lucky person for getting to know him.

My sympathies to the Huff family

Dave
