Rodney Rod Huff, 58, of 3960 Sherman St. NE # 22, died of cancer on May 11, 2008 at the Woodlands at the Methwick-Community after an extended illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Chaplain Kay Mineck will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday.
Rod is survived by his mother, Frances Huff Best; a sister, Vicky McPherson and her husband Ted. He is also survived by two nephews, Scott McPherson, his wife, Trish and their two daughters, Samantha and Paige; Sean McPherson, his wife, Shannon and their two daughters, Camryn and Allison, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family member and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Huff, his brother, Ronald Huff and his stepfather, Arnold Best.
Rod was born on September 28, 1949 to Roger and Frances Huff at Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. His family moved to Dubuque, Iowa in 1950 and lived there for four years before settling in Cedar Rapids. He completed special education classes before graduating from Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids in 1969. Upon successful completion of his schooling at the Martin Luther Home in Beatrice, Nebraska, Rod returned to Cedar Rapids and began a 25-year career with Options of Linn County. He loved to travel, visiting Hawaii six times over the years. Throughout his career, Rod worked for and made many good friends at Silliker Laboratories, Aegon USA, and Norwood Souvenir.
In 1977 Rod won first place in the swim relay at the Nebraska State Special Olympics and after his return to Iowa, he won two trophies for bowling in his division. Rod was an avid sports fan that enjoyed watching all different teams in all different sports. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Meth-Wick Woodlands, St. Luke's Hospital and St. Luke's Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
Memorial donations can be made in Rod's memory to the Meth-Wick Community, American Cancer Society or Options of Linn County.
