He is one of the most well-known experts and lecturers on death and grieving today. Visit David's website at www.Grief.com for more information.

Continuing Education fees will be paid by Cedar Memorial and Iowa Cremation. Please provide license information when registering. Pre-registration is required. Lunch is included for in-person attendees.

This workshop will help members of the caregiving community explore the significant topic of understanding and healing all types of grief. David Kessler shares strategies that can be used in the patient care setting today to help people grieve fully and live fully even in uncertain times.

Grief must be witnessed. We are not meant to grieve alone, yet between stay at home, loss of rituals, different views on the pandemic, this has been a compounded time of grief. Our society tells us to get over grief and to move forward. But that’s just not how grief works or heals. There is no timeline for grief. Professionals are helping patients/clients with the weight of an accumulation of grief at this time. People are grieving the loss of structure, certainty, gatherings, events, and even hugs. We’re also seeing people with big losses during this challenging and shifting time.

The workshop content will contain an in depth look into grief, including macro and micro losses, online support for clients, the sixth stage, responses after grief/loss, and healing.

  • Implement techniques, tools, and principles to help cope with all types of loss.
  • Identify methods to use meaning to help remember loved ones with more love than pain.
  • Identify tools to resolve the internal struggle of “why did this happen?” and “why did this happen to me?”
  • Identify micro and macro grief that happens during this time of multiple losses.
  • Utilize methods that include new information on brain science to address guilt, shame, and stigma associated with grief.
Continuing Education Credit: To obtain the 5 nursing contact hours (RNs, NPs, LPNs) or 6 CEUs (social workers, marriage and family therapists, counselors) associated with this workshop, the pre-registered health care professional will need to log-in and check-in as directed (WEBCAST) or check-in at venue registration table (IN PERSON), attend the workshop in its entirety, and complete the program Evaluation Form. Partial credit will not be awarded. The health care professional successfully meeting these requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion indicating the contact hours or CEUs awarded for their profession. Certificates will be issued by Kirkwood Community College (Iowa Board of Nursing, Provider #30) via e-mail or regular mail two-weeks following the workshop date. All allied health professionals are reminded that they are responsible for reviewing the governing rules of their boards to determine if appropriate subject matter criteria will apply. PLEASE NOTE: Late arrivals (both online and in person) will be allowed to attend the workshop—but they will NOT be eligible to earn continuing education credit.
