Larry Dallas Thurston, 68, of Hiawatha, died Monday January 26, 2026, in the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City from a sudden illness. In honor of Larry wishes, there will be no services at this time. Cremation has taken place. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Larry was born February 22, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Robert and Charlene (Oler)Thurston. He graduated from Springville High School in 1975. Following high school Larry joined the Navy, serving from 1975-1979. Larry was a machinist for Goss in Cedar Rapids. He married Carla M. Puckett on June 18, 2021, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He loved to play Billiards at the American Legion in Springville.
Larry enjoyed nature, he especially loved fishing. This love was planted as a young boy in Boy Scouts. He attained his Eagle Badge and performed Native American Dances with the troops traveling throughout the United States. His father Bob was Scout Master, helping to instill lifelong lessons. He loved to drive and race anything with four wheels.
Survivors include his wife, Carla M. Thurston, his sons, Joel (Elizabeth) Thurston, and their children Charlotte and Josephine, and son, Dallas Thurston.
