In Loving Memory of Saber Bernard
September 10, 2007 – February 4, 2026
With broken hearts and deep love, we share the life of our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. Saber Bernard was tragically taken from us on February 4, 2026, during a mental health crisis.
Saber was born September 10, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. From the very beginning, he brought light, curiosity, and energy into the lives of everyone who knew him. He attended Linn-Mar and Marion Independent schools, graduating from Marion High School in May 2025.
Saber’s spirit was thoughtful. He loved playing basketball with his cousins, spending long days fishing with his family, and listening to music that matched his many moods. He had a unique passion for collecting beautiful rocks, always seeing value and beauty in things others overlook. Saber loved ancient history, enjoyed reading Bible scriptures, and admired nice cars. His interests reflected both his depth and his joy for life. Saber was baptized at Antioch Church in Marion. His heart was big, his laugh unforgettable, and his little smirk was impossible to ignore.
Saber is survived by his father, Marco Bernard, and mother, Athene Stoner; five siblings and three step-siblings; his grandparents; cousins he grew up alongside as brothers and sisters; his aunts and uncles; and numerous friends whose lives are forever changed.
While our grief is immeasurable, so is our love. Saber’s life mattered. His story matters. Mental health matters. We pray that by sharing his memory, we help spread awareness, compassion, and understanding so that no other family has to endure this pain.
We will carry Saber’s spirit with us in every basketball game, every fishing trip, every song that plays, and every beautiful rock that catches the light.
Visitation will be held at New City Church on Saturday, February 14, from 12:00–1:00 PM for friends and supporters, with services beginning at 1:00 PM.
Arrangements are being handled by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever Saber.
We love you.
