James (Jim) Douglas Evert, age 91 of Marion, IA. passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, at Mercy Hospice House.
Jim was born on November 22, 1934, in Dundee, IA to Harry and Alma Evert. He attended school in Dundee, IA. and worked for the Rock Island Railroad and later for ADM in Cedar Rapids, IA.
He married the love of his life Beverly Haley on June 28, 1952.
He was a loving, funny and hard working man. Even after retirement he was constantly looking
for something to build or repair.
He loved to fish and spent many years fishing in Minnesota and Canada. In later years he especially loved going to Canada with his son Brian and son-in-law Marvin. He also spent many days golfing with them as much as he could until his health wouldn’t let him continue.
He was a great cook and loved making many goodies at Christmas. He loved being around family whenever he could.
Jim is survived by his wife of 73 years, Beverly; daughter, Becky Gilbert (Marv); daughter, Roxane Slifer (Mike); daughter, Tina Evert; and son, Brian Evert (Betsy); 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.
At the family’s request there will be no service at this time.
Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting with cremation and arrangements.
