Joseph L. Brasic, 70, of Carrollton Texas, went flying into the heavens on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in peace and without pain.

Joseph was born on Thursday, January 7, 1954, in Blue Island, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Wunder) Brasic.  Spending his childhood years attending Seven Holy Founders grade school and graduating from Marist High School in 1972, Joseph did some intermediate travels before settling in Houston, Texas where he worked several mechanical positions.

After divorcing in 1989, Joe spent all his time raising his son, Joseph, “Joey” and in 1999, Joseph embarked on a new career journey attending a community college trade school and received his graduate diploma in communications at the age of 45.  At the top of his class, Joseph was asked to teach at the school during an interim period before he went on to start his employment with AT&T as a Network Center Technician, where he proudly served 22-1/2 years.  During this time, Joseph met Jeannie, and their story began with a lifetime of love, and happiness.

Joseph or “Joe” to many who knew him, knew he had a quirky sense of humor, had a soft spot for all those he loved, was extremely supportive of those who wanted to chase their dreams, and encouraged furthering education, he had a love for all things nature, enjoyed his favorite foods whenever possible, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling, including the great state of Texas, cross-country back to his home state of Illinois and to the family Lakehouse in Michigan as well as visiting his extended family in Keota and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  However, Joe’s truly favorite destination retreat was Oahu Hawaii every year on his birthday.  He absolutely enjoyed the refuge, the attractions, the native island traditions but most of all he loved the rest and relaxation of the evening tide.  It was where he was most at home, by connecting with his inner self and tropical splendor.  His hobbies included his passion for bowling, photography, testing his extremely good luck, playing the lottery, and never passing up the slots at the local casino, all things electronic, as well as planting and gardening.  He loved working on and repairing cars, and several fixit projects, and knew that if it could be fixed, he was the one that could do it!

Joe cherished his family.  It was during family events and travels to see them that not only brought him closer to them, but it gave Joe so much joy and happiness, especially his grandkids.  The love he shared for each of them was evident in ways they may have never known.

After retiring, Joe spent time transitioning from his Houston home, spending time with his wife Jeannie and their pets, his adored Jack, Fluffy, and the “Brasic Trio” Vada, Thomas J and Bailey, in their Carrollton home.  He was active in continuing his fix-it projects and simply enjoying his time off.

Joe is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 25-years, Marjean “Jeannie” Brasic of Carrollton, Texas, his beloved son, Joseph “Joey” (Anna) Brasic of Richland Texas, and three grandchildren, Isaac Leo, Karina Elise and Audry Rain.  His brothers, Robert “Bob” Brasic of Calumet Park, Illinois, and David “Dave” Brasic of Tinley Park, Illinois.  Two nephews, Michael (Nancy) Brasic of Kernersville, North Carolina, and Timothy (Jenny) Brasic of New Lenox, Illinois and one niece, Lisa Anne (Greg) Mosca of Rockford, Illinois.  Along with many great nephews and nieces.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Carol.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
