Maria Murphy, 80, passed away from a long battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Maria was born December 18, 1943, in Waubeek, Iowa to John and Lena (Taylor) Bruce. She was the youngest of five sisters: Melvina Bruce of Marion, IA, Martha Scott of Texas, Betty Tucker (Tommy) of Marion, IA, Alice Covington (Gene) of Clarence, IA.
Maria married Anthony “Tony” Murphy on November 16, 1963, in Anamosa, Iowa. They enjoyed over thirty years together until Tony’s passing in 1994.
She enjoyed volunteering her time with the local animal shelters. She also enjoyed reading, shopping, and spending time with family and friends.
Maria worked as a line operator at Rockwell Collins for over 15 years and then worked at Aegon until retiring in 2003.
Although she grew up in Iowa, she had a short period of time when she moved to California with her family from 1983 to 1992. She was employed by Northrop Grumman as a supervisor. She made her way back to Iowa in 1992.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Murphy (Bill Pierce) of Cedar Rapids; three amazing grandchildren, Sara Murphy-Kirby (Ben Parker), Alicia Patterson (Jake), and Thomas Murphy-Kirby; and two precious great-grandchildren, Anura C. Parker and Lyllian Parker.
A private family burial took place on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
